Chicken Feed

Another season, another lingering injury hurting performance, another cracked bone.  I feel like I've already seen this one.

Thats right chickens, that club on his arm is protecting a cracked bone in his wrist:

Read about it here.

I just discovered today that Deion Branch has his own website.

www.deionbranch83.com

Seems like its still a little wet behind the ears, but you can donate to his foundation and buy Branch gear. He also has a forum in which it appears he is monitoring himself. I let him know in there about his winning of the Golden Egg, so hopefully he'll know about our rooting for him. Be sure to swing by there and drop him a line.

In this weeks Madden sim, The Colonel wins again.  Thanks to a 50 yard fumble recovery and run back, and Alexander's butter fingers, he was able to take the 49ers into OT vs the Hawks.  He got an outstanding diving interception to steal the ball from me, then marched down and kicked a FG.

Final score of 10 to 7 in the 49er's favor.

Good game Colonel errr ... General errr..... Colonel

hasselbeck gold egg Hasselbeck gets his egg.  He made some kill throughs when needed, and overall was on the money.  That last TD pass to Burleson splitting the CB and Safety was a thing of beauty.

Again, like every week so far Burelson was on the short list of winners.  Hang in there buddy, you'll get yours the way your playing.  Another prospect was the whole special teams.  That game would have turned out way different without their play.

Great game guys.

strange loveWatching football sure makes you do some strange things, and stirs conflicting emotions.

I'm sitting here watching the 49ers vs Steelers game. I know I'm supposed to be rooting for the Steelers in this one because of my love for the Hawks. We don't need the 49ers getting any more wins. The Fox guys this morning were pretty sour on the 49ers, but I'm still scared of them in our division. So I'm happily going to root for the Steelers, right?

Even knowing I need the 49ers to loose I have trouble actually rooting for the Steelers. I used to root for the Steelers when I'd see them on TV, but ever since they were given the win in the Superbowl, I want nothing more than to see them lose, and lose bad, whenever I see them play. I know, I know, I should just get over it but.....

So I will root for the Steelers because I have to, but not becasue I want to.

Maybe it's just because I'm a former offensive guy, or maybe it's because I think low-scoring defensive affairs are boring as hell, but I think that Holmgren should open it up this week.  Let Hasselbeck throw long and often--we can even let Alexander or Morris get into the mix and see if they can catch.

If the Browns can score 51 points on the Bengals, surely we can?

Just so you don't think I'm completely off my rocker, looks like Jamey Eisenberg, Senior Fantasy Writer for NFL.com agrees with me:

"Browns quarterback Derek Anderson passed for 328 yards, five touchdowns and an interception last week against Cincinnati, so Hasselbeck should be in line for a big day. Hasselbeck got going last week against Arizona with 281 yards passing and a touchdown. He doesn't have a dominant receiver, but Deion Branch, Bobby Engram and Nate Burleson get the job done. The Bengals also are No. 27 in pass defense, allowing 267.5 yards per game and five touchdowns with only three interceptions. After doing well against Baltimore in Week 1, Cincinnati's defense fell apart against Cleveland, and Hasselbeck should continue the misery."

What do you think HawkNation?

The General and I simulated this weekends up coming game, and it didn't turn out how I'ld expect. It was a rather low scoring affair with a final score of Bengals 21 to the Seahawks 14.

After the first 3 quarters it was tied 0-0 but then the shootout started. A Bengals game wouldn't be complete without a cheap long bomb to Chad Johnson, so there was a couple of those for good measure. The Hawks fought back with a 103 yard kick off return by Deion Branch, but in the end it was not enough. Hacket was tackled at the 1 yard line on the last play of the game. 1 lousy yard from going into overtime.

It was much fun, thanks for the good fight Colonel.

branch eggI know the game left a sour taste, but there was a little bright spot.

His name was Deion Branch. He sure gave it his all to try and help us win. From making awesome catches, to fighting for yards after the catch, he was sure doing his part. The moment that most stands out to me is his effort to play defender against a ball that was batted into the air.

All this was after not having any bones tossed his way the week before. What a guy.

Alyssa (Seahawks: 17 Opponent: 21 for 18pts)

For two weeks in a row, Alyssa is the top point winner for the prediction game.  She is leading our fantasy football league, and winning the seachickens prediction game, yet she "claims" to not know anything about football.

I gotta say, hats off to you Alyssa.  Keep it up.

lofa goldeggAs mentioned the other day, there is a weekly award that we will be giving out to one deserving Hawk player each week. It is called the Golden Egg.

The first one goes to Lofa Tatupu. Congratulations.

It was not an easy choice this week. It almost went to Nate Burleson for being the one to put the spark into the game that the Hawks needed with that punt return. But at the end of the day we felt it was the defense that allowed the Hawks to win the game, and the ring leader of that was Lofa. His orchestration of the defense plus the two fumbles that he caused where the main reasons why he gets the very first Golden Egg.
