The Running Back Nobody Discussed Is Now Splitting First-Team Reps
Seattle moved practice to Lumen Field on Saturday night, and with rookie first-round pick Jadarian Price sidelined for a second straight day, Emanuel Wilson split the first-team running back reps with George Holani. That is not a sentence anybody in this fanbase had drafted in March, when Wilson arrived from Green Bay on a one-year deal and got filed under depth.
He is not really a depth guy anymore. Wilson put up 998 rushing yards as the Packers’ RB2 over the past two seasons, and he keeps insisting the thing people get wrong about him is the speed. ESPN’s Brady Henderson watched him move at Lumen and agreed, which is a polite way of saying a 226-pound back out of Fort Valley State has spent two weeks quietly outrunning his own scouting report.

The other half of this is less fun. Zach Charbonnet is still on PUP after February ACL surgery, Mike Macdonald refuses to hand out return dates, and the only real update he offered was that Charbonnet “has done a phenomenal job” in rehab. That is four separate compliments about a rookie’s athleticism from a coach whose job is to be hard to impress. Henderson piled up 455 kick return yards at Kansas last season and led the Big 12 in kick return touchdowns with one, which is the kind of résumé that gets you a roster spot on a team with four locked receivers and no returns to spare.
Because that’s the real math here. JSN, Kupp, Shaheed and Horton have chairs. Everyone else is auditioning for a job that is mostly about covering kicks and occasionally catching one. Henderson appears to be winning it in the most boring, useful way possible: by being faster than the guys next to him and not dropping things.

The Golden Egg goes to a chair. Not a player, a chair. The last spot on Seattle’s 90-man roster has changed hands so many times in the past ten days that the equipment staff should start laminating.
Edge rusher Garrett Nelson signed on a Tuesday and was waived the next day. Linebacker Joseph Vaughn came and went. Then Power Echols signed on a Friday and was gone by Saturday so Seattle could add a running back, because Jadarian Price was sore and somebody needed to take handoffs.
This is what a Super Bowl roster looks like in August: 88 spots settled, one open for injuries, and one that exists purely so John Schneider can audition strangers between practices. It is the least glamorous job in professional football and it is doing more work this month than most starters. Congratulations to the chair. Nobody sits in it long.
