Fleury Put Everybody in Motion, and the Defense Has Stopped Guessing
We finally know what Brian Fleury’s version of this offense actually looks like, and the scouting report came from the other side of the ball. Leonard Williams, asked about the new install this week, described a pre-snap circus. “Yeah, there’s a lot more motion,” he said. “Fullback motion, tight end motions. Sometimes the tight end is in a fullback position and vice versa.” Then the part that matters: two tight ends shift to one side and the run goes that way, or two tight ends shift to one side and the run goes the other way. “So you can’t really guess. You’ve got to really just read your keys.”
None of this is a surprise if you know where Fleury came from. He spent seven seasons in San Francisco, the last four coaching tight ends, and was already helping build the run game before he got the run game coordinator title in 2025. Seattle just imported the pre-snap movement that has annoyed us every year for a decade and pointed it at our own defense in July.

Cooper Kupp, who has spent his career learning offenses from men who love a diagram, offered his review Tuesday. “The wing-T stuff that we’ve got in is fantastic,” he joked. The engine is still the run-and-play-action machine Klint Kubiak left behind. The paint job is new.
I’ll take a defense that spends its Tuesdays uncomfortable. Better to read your keys wrong now, against your own tight ends, than in a division game in December against somebody else’s.

The roster is full again after Wednesday’s signing. It stayed at 89 for exactly two days.
The résumé: 60 catches, 824 yards and five touchdowns at Delaware last season, first-team All-Conference USA, and a punt return touchdown thrown in. Across five college seasons at Coastal Carolina and Delaware he totaled 83 catches for 1,172 yards. He spent part of the offseason on Detroit’s roster and was released in June.
So the running back room lost a body and the front office answered with a fifteenth receiver, in a group where four chairs are already spoken for. That is either roster math nobody asked for or a very quiet nod toward the return unit, which is the only door on this roster that has ever been open to a guy like this. Schneider’s answer to any vacancy is another body to compete with, and he has never once apologized for it.

Seattle’s reported offer to Devon Witherspoon was upwards of $30 million a year. That number was in the neighborhood two weeks ago. It is now furniture in somebody else’s living room. And the second-order problem is worse: Ward’s deal pushes up the price on New England’s Christian Gonzalez, who shares an agency with Witherspoon, which means the guy Seattle is waiting on just got a raise he hasn’t signed yet.
Ward is 29 and had two years left with no guaranteed money on it. Witherspoon is 25 and played corner in a Super Bowl-winning defense. Every week this sits, the comps get better for him and worse for us. That is not a crisis. It is just an invoice with interest.

Former Seahawks running back Ahman Green revealed Wednesday that he has Parkinson’s disease, going public on the “Go Long” podcast with Tyler Dunne. The Super Bowl favorites closed the first block of camp Wednesday with offensive linemen Alaric Jackson and Justin Dedich both standing around in ball caps, and Sean McVay handing out updates about them after practice. Matthew Stafford turns 39 this season and keeps taking first-team snaps behind a line that cannot get five bodies to the same session four days in a row. They imported everything except an offensive line that shows up.

Six days into Arizona’s camp, James Conner is still out of team drills with an injury, so Tyler Allgeier took a healthy share of first-team reps and the RB2 snaps went to Bam Knight, ahead of Trey Benson. The Cardinals have collected running backs the way other people collect chargers for devices they no longer own.
