Seattle Wants Terrion Arnold. So Do Five Other Teams.
Terrion Arnold worked out in Renton on Sunday and Mike Macdonald said afterward that the Seahawks have interest in signing him. That was four days ago. Since then Arnold has been to New Orleans on Tuesday and the Giants on Wednesday, having already visited Houston, with the Colts and Jets also reported as interested. Seattle isn’t recruiting him. Seattle is standing in a line.

Teams that have hosted Terrion Arnold for a visit or been reported as interested since Detroit released him on June 29.
The reason the line exists, and the reason it’s moving slowly, is the part nobody on any of these visits is joking about. Detroit released its 2024 first-round pick on June 29 after his arrest in Florida on four felony counts each of armed robbery and kidnapping, charges that could carry a life sentence on conviction. His arraignment is scheduled for this week. Every team on that tour is doing homework on a football player and a court docket at the same time.
Hard Knocks put Seattle’s version of that homework on television Tuesday, right down to John Schneider saying on camera that assistant GM Joey Schneider thinks Arnold would be able to play in the preseason. Pro Football Talk’s read is less rosy: sign him, and the league’s opening move could be the Commissioner Exempt list, which is a formal way of paying a cornerback to stay home. Two weeks before the owners vote on the sale of this franchise.

Macdonald has been careful about all of it. “Well, we are going to do our due diligence,” he said, adding that there are people in Arnold’s corner the Seahawks respect. Fine. Seattle does have room behind Devon Witherspoon and Josh Jobe, and Arnold started 22 games in two years, which is more than anybody currently competing for that job can say. But this one doesn’t get decided in the personnel meeting. It gets decided somewhere in Florida, by people who have never watched a rep of press coverage in their lives.

Nobody should sprint to the betting window. Price has been dealing with lower-body soreness and missed practice time, and a first-round pick generally does not stay behind a guy who has 25 career carries. But somebody in that building typed those names in that order, and the order wasn’t Price.

The other line worth reading is on the offensive line. Anthony Bradford is listed at right guard with Christian Haynes second and rookie Beau Stephens third, which quietly deflates the summer’s favorite subplot about the Iowa kid pushing Bradford for the job. Jalen Sundell is listed ahead of Olu Oluwatimi at center. Camp battles are fun right up until somebody writes the answer down.

San Francisco spent Wednesday rearranging deck furniture: in came running back Zamir White, cornerback Eli Apple and defensive lineman Xavier Thomas on one-year deals, out went receiver Junior Bergen, punter Jack Bouwmeester and, waived/injured, defensive lineman K.J. Henry. The running back signing arrives with Christian McCaffrey managing tightness, one rookie back nursing an adductor and another with a fractured rib. They also settled the punter competition by waiving a punter, which is one way to reach a decision.

Mike LaFleur says his starters will actually play tonight in Las Vegas. “One drive, max of two for those main guys.” That means Jacoby Brissett gets a series and top pick Jeremiyah Love makes his NFL debut in Arizona’s second preseason game. Arizona reported to camp early and played in Canton specifically to get ahead of everybody, and the reward for all that extra August is watching their franchise running back take his first professional handoff a week after the rest of the league started.
