JSN vs. Randy MossThree straight games of 100 yards and a touchdown to open the season. Moss had four. The Chargers come to town at 1:25.

JSN Needs One More Hundred to Catch Randy Moss

Jaxon Smith-Njigba has opened the season with 100 receiving yards and a touchdown in three straight games. Per Yahoo Sports, that streak trails only Randy Moss in 2007 for the longest in the Super Bowl era. Moss did it four times in a row. JSN gets his crack at number four today against the Chargers at Lumen.

He’s also the only player since 2000 with 400 receiving yards and six touchdowns through three weeks. At his current per-game average he’s on pace for 2,295 yards, which would bury Calvin Johnson’s single-season record of 1,964. I don’t believe in October paces. I believe in this one a little.

JSN’s current pace for receiving yards. The NFL single-season record is Calvin Johnson’s 1,964.

There’s a home-grown record on the table too. A hundred yards today ties his own franchise mark of four straight 100-yard games, which he set last season. He has already broken most of this team’s receiving records, so these days he’s mostly chasing himself.

The Chargers know exactly where the ball is going. Their SI beat site points out that JSN accounts for 49 percent of Seattle’s passing yards on 37 percent of the targets. Seattle’s offense this season is a man and a support group. Los Angeles has given up over 200 passing yards in every game, and three of its defensive backs are questionable: Derwin James and Elijah Molden with hamstrings, Donte Jackson with a concussion.

With the run game stuck under four yards a carry and its starting back now on IR, Brian Fleury’s game plan could fit on an index card with one name on it. I’d sign off on that card.

Price Goes to IR, and Velus Jones Jr. Gets the Promotion

Price started all three games and ran for 119 yards on 28 carries, losing a fumble in back-to-back weeks. Macdonald went out of his way on Friday to say “By no means is this JD’s fault or anything like that,” per ESPN. He’s right. It’s still a rough first month for a first-round pick.

Here’s what’s left. Seattle is averaging 3.8 yards a carry, and SI’s Chargers site figures that drops to 3.5 without Price. Zach Charbonnet is out today and can’t play until Oct. 11 at the earliest. So the reinforcements are a week away, and they’re coming off a rebuilt knee. Until then it’s Wilson, Holani, and a guy who was on the practice squad Friday.

Around the Coop

Trevon Diggs got elevated from the practice squad for the first time, with safety Maxen Hook called up again. SI thinks Diggs could push rookie Julian Neal to inactive. Signed, cut, practice squad, promoted. The man has toured every room in the building. Seahawks.com

Tuli Tuipulotu has 12 pressures and two sacks through three games, and rookie Akheem Mesidor has 1.5 sacks on just 66 snaps. Seattle’s line has already put two guards on IR. Maybe skip the long rollouts this week, Sam. Yahoo Sports

Mike Florio picked Seattle 27-13 and Pete Prisco went 30-20. Florio’s reasoning: the loss in Washington was an “unexpected wakeup call.” Pundits trust you most right after you blow one. Football is strange. Seahawks.com

RAMS

The Rams finished their loss in Denver with 91 penalty yards, their most in a game since December 2024, and they head to Philadelphia today at 1-2. Los Angeles spent the whole offseason assembling a dream team, and a month in, the most dependable part of it is the yellow laundry. The refs are the only ones moving the ball against them on a regular basis.

NINERS

The 49ers’ own preview for today’s Broncos game kindly notes that former 49ers safety Talanoa Hufanga already has two interceptions this season, and he got both of them last Sunday against the Rams. Now he’s coming back to Levi’s. One ex-Niner picking off two NFC West rivals in consecutive weeks would be the best thing Santa Clara has ever done for Seattle. Go get ’em, Talanoa.

Seattle took this cornerback from Pittsburgh in the 1976 expansion draft, and his 50 interceptions as a Seahawk are still the franchise record. Who is he?

Dave Brown. He started 159 games here, took five interceptions back for touchdowns, and later came back to coach Seattle’s cornerbacks from 1992 to 1998.

Seattle Wins in Miami to Start 4-0

On this day in 2020, Russell Wilson threw for 360 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-23 win over the Dolphins. That gave Seattle its first 4-0 start since 2013. DK Metcalf had 106 receiving yards. This year’s team won’t get to 4-0, thanks to Washington, but 3-1 is right there.

Contracts, depth charts, whether a 2,295-yard pace survives Halloween. Send it in and I’ll answer it with more honesty than anyone asked for.
